Hopewell Attendance Policy
Tardy/Absent
A student will be considered absent from a class if they are tardy 45 minutes or more from
that class period.
Attendance Recovery
A student missing more than 10 days must participate in Attendance Recovery Plan developed
by the teacher. Students may recover absences by class during after school tutorials, Extended
Day or with an individual teacher during non-school hours. Students will need to recover time
by course under the supervision of a licensed staff member. Students will need to recover
excess absences “hour- for-hour” or by completing work approved by the instructor that
equals the amount needed for recovery. Failure to do recovery will result in the student
receiving a grade of “F” for the course.
Attendance Appeals
Students with excessive absences who have a passing grade in a class may submit a written
appeal to the Principal. The Principal will evaluate the student’s appeal based on grades,
participation in the Recovery Program and teacher recommendation. (Please see attendance
recovery policy for more details).
To enter the class after the bell you MUST have a pass.
Behavior Expectations:
All students will follow the student behavior expectation matrix and the classroom rules. Cell phones are not permitted in class. If a student is using a cell phone without permission, it will be taken to the office and the parent/guardian can pick it up after school. Please see page 14 of the student handbook for more information.
